Memo to Baby Central

Memo

Re: 2008 Review of Parental Units

As required by Section 2.6 (a) of the Baby Manual, we hereby present our annual review of Parental Units Felicity ("Mama") and Kevin ("Daddy") Ronaghan for the calendar year 2008.

PUs have provided for numerous age-appropriate stimulating activities on a daily basis including book reading, block stacking, tambourine shaking, and stuffy hugging. Indoor living environment continually supplied with music of all varieties including Classical, Jazz, Country and Pop. Regular excursions to the outdoors are appropriately varied insofar as walks are undertaken with the writer in a stroller, as well as being worn by either PU in a variety of baby carriers (Note: number of carriers appears excessive; follow-up may be required in this area). Recent outdoor excursion included experience of "snow," a curious white substance of odd consistency and cold temperature.

Numerous travel opportunities were provided. In addition to travel by foot noted above, the writer experienced travel by aeroplane (two separate voyages), train and automobile, the latter being the least favoured of the three. We do note that a seat of significantly improved comfort has been provided for car travel.

Cultural activities included numerous quilt shows, a professional soccer game, Canada Day festivities, a country fair, Solstice Festival, as well as a wedding, a baptism and (sadly) a funeral.

We confirm we have rewarded the PUs with expressions of affection (hugging, kissing, plus judicious use of "Mama" and "Daddy"). Furthermore, we report we have begun to become proficient in the PUs' language, mastering the following words (sampling only; list not exhaustive): hat, head, nose, snow, teeth, brush, book, ball, bath, wall, hug, cat, duck. Baby Sign Language has been beneficial for our communication and we confirm having mastered the following signs (sampling only; list not exhaustive): eat/food, nurse, bath, cat, cow, duck, hot, music, more.

Physical milestones achieved include rolling over, sitting, crawling, standing, stair-climbing, and walking without support.

Areas requiring improvement include: allowing writer to explore "ornaments" on "Christmas Tree" without interference; insistence on bedtime in advance of 10pm; insistence on changing writer's diapers.

Overall Grade: Pass

Haha, I stumbled across your blog when I did a google search for baby sign language and I love how it is from the baby's point-of-view. I'm currently learning baby sign language from a site called MindBites.com:

Where did your PU's get their BSL data?

:D

Hello!

My parents found a book called "Baby Sign Language for Hearing Babies" at a local bookstore. The author is Karyn Warburton, and it is published by Perigee Books.

It looks like Perigee is owned by Penguin, as they list the www.penguin.com website on the back cover; look under "Parenting" if you visit the site. The ISBN is 0-399-53260-9.

Have fun...
